According to the Wall Street Journal, Barack Obama has opened a 10-point lead in the polls. I've felt for weeks that Obama would win in a mandate. Too much is going wrong for an incumbent party to hold onto the White House. So with Obama the next president, what does it mean for the eco-economy? At first glance, it looks good. According to his energy plan, Obama will "Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future." This sounds great, but I'm afraid that Obama is missing a major issue:
Tax breaks for corporations. It's not a popular democratic theme, but it should be. Consider this: our corporate tax rate is around 35 percent. Compare this to Ireland's 11 percent, and you can see what we're up against when if comes to denting our trade deficit by keeping more jobs and manufacturing at home. The next administration will need to do more than reach across the aisle; they will need to adopt "Outside In Politics."
Outside-In Politics is a fusing of the far right and left views into a new approach. Not a watered-down compromise laden with pork and rendered ineffective by concession. I’m talking about a real fusion of ideals in an actionable agenda that drives GDP, lowers the trade deficit, and creates middle class wealth and corporate earnings. So when McCain talks about tax relief for corporations, dems can't buckle. Our economy is WAY out of whack, and we need fundamental changes to create conditions for sustainable growth. Sure, I want to see the fine print on any breaks for the ExxonMobil's of the world. But if we want America to retool itself into a manufacturing powerhouse, it's going to take more than government spending to make it happen.

This is why I trend more right of the middle most of the time. Speaking completely in broad terms I don't the government to run anything. It should be in the hands of the people and the government should support us with lower taxes especially when it comes to corporations.
